Audio frequency ripple (AFR) control
Depending on the layout, an AFR receiver is located in each luminaire to switch it directly or in the sub-distributions in which case it switches the entire lighting cable. Typical for the system is that if the entire lighting cable is switched, luminaires can be controlled only by partial switch-off (2-lamp operation) or via an extra control wire for reduced-power operation in combination with magnetic ballasts and power reduction relays. The restrictions the system entails are major but they can be overcome by using the right approach and with the LiCS outdoor components, the system offers almost the same options to save energy as fully fledged lighting management systems.
